Ballet Cymru was established in 1986 by Artistic Director, Darius James and Administrative Director, Yvonne Williams, to be a beacon for quality classical ballet in Wales.
The company offers 5 summer courses held at The Riverfront Theatre in Newport with courses led by the company artistic directors, the international company dancers, and guest teachers.
Ballet Cymru offers a full scholarship for the course fee of the Wales International Ballet Summer School, worth £200, where the recipient will dance alongside the the professional dancers of the company in daily class, repertoire and a new choreography.
For those interested in furthering their training Ballet Cymru’s Pre Professional Programme is a highly practical course for those who are hoping to pursue a career as a professional dancer or choreographer. The programme provides a rigorous combination of training in classical ballet technique, repertoire, Contemporary, Pilates, Choroegraphy, workshops in aerial techniques, light/costume design and marketing. The Programme is a fully comprehensive training programme, designed to facilitate the transition between full-time training and becoming an industry professional.
